Save a Seat at the Table

We all arrive ahead of someone meant to be with us and saving them a seat with a proper attitude is a real blessing

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! It is my aim to encourage you today in the grace Jesus gives and remind you of His marvelous love and faithfulness in some way.

Recently our family went out together to eat. My mother in law Sue arrived first and got the table and then was joined by my Grandson Timothy and myself. We saved seats for the rest of the family for when they could arrive. While we sat there we enjoyed each others company and the chips and salsa they brought out to the table for us. We even had them bring out their special cheese dip and drinks. I ordered my wife Sheila a Dr Pepper to make sure it would be already there when she came in and sat down. We call this saving someone a seat at the table. We might get there ahead of them but we are excited and thrilled to save them a seat in anticipation of sharing with them this wonderful thing that is about to unfold.

Just a few things to note about saving a seat for someone before we get into the meat of this message today.

  1. Saving a seat does not require me to be miserable while waiting for the other person to arrive.
  2. Saving a seat does not mean I am better than them, superior to them or that they owe me anything.
  3. Saving a seat does not make me a victim, it enables me to be a friend.
  4. Saving a seat with the right attitude and motivation requires maturity.
  5. Saving a seat usually demonstrates a value to the other person as you wish them to be seated next to you and not have to worry if they will have a seat when they arrive.

I give this analogy to build into us today a realization for how to carry ourselves in the revelation the Holy Spirit gives to us on healing. I also hope to encourage you in very real situations of life you may be currently going through. I also hope to cast a vision in you for the good things available at His table!

You see, Jesus is not only saving you a seat, He has gone before to set it all in place and make sure it is fool proof. I am someone who really needs it to be fool proof.

Hebrews 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Because Jesus went ahead of us into heaven itself and serves as our High Priest we can have confidence.

It is such a comfort to know someone has gone ahead of you and saved you a seat. Last Sunday, Sheila was able to go home, get comfortable and then come to the restaurant to join the rest of us. She knew without a doubt she would have a seat. It freed her up to tend to some things before arriving. Her goal was to make sure she would be able to engage fully and enjoy her place at the table with all the ones she loves. When you know that the person saving your place loves you and and simply wishes to have you there with them, for that very reason you can rest and enjoy.

Now, when it comes to revelation from the Holy Spirit, this is how we can carry ourselves towards others who have yet to lay hold of what it is we see. We are called to save them a place at the table, not lord over them that we see something they don’t, or make them feel inferior when they do arrive to join us at the same table. At the same time, those who have been at the table are not expected to refuse to enjoy what is available to them until everyone arrives. In order for others to know the value of having a place saved for them, they must be able to see how others are already benefitting from being at the table and enjoying what it offers.

This is especially true when it comes to the availability of grace, the New Covenant, healing, the trustworthiness of God and the reliability of all His promises. I want to look at something that took place that involves Jesus and a Greek woman who came to Him for help with her daughter who was demon possessed.

The disciples had a seat at the table with Jesus because in the context of the moment regarding the prophetic clock, Jesus was sent to the Jews first and was currently involved in His mission to them. But something amazing happens. A Greek woman hears about Jesus and how people have received from Him.

Mark 7:25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. 26 The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” 28 And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.” 29 Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.” 30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

A table symbolizes a place of receiving provision for life and health. It symbolizes abundance, connection, fellowship and joy. For this woman, even the crumbs from His table would be a blessing. To her, to be a dog getting the crumbs would be a blessing. Thus when we as His children have a place at the table we are very thankful. The table He sets is never empty. He sets us a table in the presence of our enemies! He wants the enemy to see how abundantly He has provided for us and how faithfully He cares for us. It is like rubbing salt in the enemy’s eyes. That is why we openly give praise to God for what we expect to receive from His table. We need at this point to give heed to something Scripture testifies to in,

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Everything to do with the kingdom begins at the point of faith for us. Everything flows to us through the pipeline of faith. No pipeline, no flow. I’m not your pipeline. My voice is not the pipeline but if you come expecting to hear the Holy Spirit speak to you through my voice and His voice lands on your heart, you have a pipeline. Then your seat at the table is very real to you. No one goes to the table unless they believe there’s something for them and they will be welcomed to it. The Greek woman whose daughter was delivered bears witness to the willingness of Jesus, and Jesus is a witness to the willingness of the Father. She heard and went. She must have came back to give thanks and report on what transpired because it says she went home to find her daughter on her bed free of the demon just as Jesus had said. How could that be known unless it was reported?

Personal testimony is powerful, it makes others aware of the faithful acts of God towards His children. Faith declarations are also important. God is glorified by declarations of faith concerning His willingness even though it cannot be seen it in the natural just yet. It testifies of our faith in Him as our Father.

I wonder how weird it was for someone to hear Abraham speak of an heir to come that he would leave everything to when he and Sarah were well past the age for childbirth? I wonder how strange Noah and so many others must have seemed to others for rejoicing in the promise they had received?

If you are afraid of others thinking you are strange for believing in things unseen you will not come to His table. You will struggle to give thanks and praise. Thanksgiving and praise abound where there is true faith! Joy comes by faith because faith is not about what you can see, it’s rooted in what you believe about God! A natural thinking person doesn’t understand but those with faith get it. There’s a seat at the table for you!

You are loved today and always by your faithful gracious Heavenly Father. By coming to His Son Jesus in faith to be forgiven and made alive you became His child supernaturally and He is for you not against you. He can heal you just as easily as He forgave you and made you righteous. It is by the same means, it is a gift and it works on the basis of faith.

So I speak healing to you today in His marvelous name. I declare that He is not only able to heal you, He is willing. Go and have a blessed day today in His name and always. His grace and peace be with you.

The Table is Set

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! It is my aim to encourage you today in the grace Jesus gives and remind you of His marvelous love and faithfulness in some way.

Years ago when learning to grill my son in law picked out some ground meat from the store for hamburgers and very lovingly cooked for the family. Several who ate that day got food poisoning due to some of the meat being bad. My son in law was well intentioned but he lacked experience. It took a while for some to desire a hamburger off the grill after that. It was a nice table that had been set for everyone but the memory that lives on is not one of having had a great meal. We have had meals off his grill since then but it took time for that to happen.

Now unlike the table my son in law set that day the table Jesus sets for us is always set with good things, you will never get food poisoning at the table Jesus sets. There are no bad or evil things at His table.

But He does set a table for us in the presence of our enemies. He wants them to watch as He faithfully cares for us and provides us with good things. It is like rubbing salt in the their wounds reminding them of Christ victory over them. This was prophecy spoken about Jesus in the Psalms.

Psalms 23:5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over.

Jesus is still doing this through us so that it is never forgotten that He is favored by the Father and has passed that favor on to us. When we get this by revelation of the Holy Spirit we begin to walk in an awareness of His willingness to give us good things as needed. Things like healing and provision. When our faith in Him and His willingness is awaken d it peels back the veil that was trying to hide the fact that heaven is opened to us and the goodness of God is ours for the receiving.

Without Respect of Persons

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! It is my aim to encourage you today in the grace Jesus gives and remind you of His marvelous love and faithfulness in some way.

I still remember that one particular Christmas so long ago. I wanted a drum set and my little brother Scott wanted a guitar. That Christmas morning we awakened to a drum set and guitar but the names were reversed. It all got sorted out though in time. I knew my parents loved me and who wouldn’t make such a mistake when dealing with five rambunctious boys?

I shared that to make the point that although we are different in personality, gifting and etc, God as a Father still gives to us according to His wisdom the very thing it is we need. When we seek healing from Him it is not always packaged in an identical way to each of us. As a little boy my faith was not in learning guitar it was in learning how to play the drums. Therefore the guitar would have served me very little.

Healing comes from the father without respect of persons in the sense that He does not favor one of His children above another. But without respect of persons does not mean we all get a guitar, or a set of drums. It means His love and grace will come to us according to our faith and how He has made us. So healing flows in many different forms, but the the fact remains that it flows.

How it will manifest will be multifaceted because there is not a one size fits all approach in this area. Scripture does teach us though that there are times where Jesus declared be unto you according to your faith. He even said to some their faith had made them whole. There’s one to chew on, just steer clear of any condemnation when you do. I hope you can hear me saying that healing is for you, just as it is for me.

You are loved today and always by your faithful gracious Heavenly Father. By coming to His Son Jesus in faith to be forgiven and made alive you became His child supernaturally and He is for you not against you. Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! It is my aim to encourage you today in the grace Jesus gives and remind you of His marvelous love and faithfulness in some way.

Psalms 139:14 I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well.

After speaking of how amazing it is the God created him the Psalmist calls God’s works marvelous and claims His soul knows it very well.

In other words the Psalmist is convinced of what he has just proclaimed with regard to being fearfully and wonderfully made by God and that God’s works are marvelous. The question is am I convinced of the same?

We’ve been talking about God’s will to heal and so this verse could seem out of place to some. But I assure you it is not out of place at all. I wish to speak to this idea of how we were made and use it to further substantiate the idea that God likes it when we are well and would never wish us to be sick or diseased.

In creating us God made our human bodies capable of fighting off sickness and disease. Our bodies kick into high gear when they are invaded by a bacteria, virus or other intruder that would make us sick. Our bodies have an amazing ability to heal when a bone is broken, or we are wounded in some way. Why would a creator build this into a body if He did not wish that we be whole? Why create the highest form of creation itself and make it capable of fighting off such things and healing itself if there is no desire for that creation to be well?

Now I challenge you to add to that the idea that God is now a Father to those who come to Him in relationship through Jesus Christ. I further challenge you to add to that idea the testimony of Scripture time and again revealing how much He is for us and not against us. Then finally consider how there is not one single testimony in Scripture that reveals Jesus refused to heal anyone who came to Him for healing. Jesus made it clear He had come to show us the Father and said if we had seen Him we had seen the Father. The way Jesus treated people in need is how the Father wanted them treated and it revealed the Father’s compassion and mercy.

You are loved today and always by your faithful gracious Heavenly Father. By coming to His Son Jesus in faith to be forgiven and made alive you became His child supernaturally and He is for you not against you. Healing for Today and Always

If I said that at the cross Jesus took your sin away completely, would you take issue with me?

If I said that at the cross Jesus became sin so that you might become the righteousness of God, would you take issue with me?

I think it is safe to say that we agree that at the cross sin was done away with and we were made righteous.

After all that is what the Scriptures testify happened, is it not?

2Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Now let me ask you a really important question.

If Scripture testified of other things being taken care of at the cross would you be willing to agree with it and believe it?

Matthew 8:14 Now when Jesus had come into Peter’s house, He saw his wife’s mother lying sick with a fever. 15 So He touched her hand, and the fever left her. And she arose and served them. 16 When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon-possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed all who were sick, 17 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”

In this recorded historical event how many sick people did Jesus heal?

What does it reveal about why did Jesus did that?

Now in many circles it is taught that the infirmities Jesus took was the sin. They teach that the healing promised is talking about our deliverance from sin. In fact, this is very prominent in denominational circles.

But this prophetic promise Isaiah made is not attached to sin, it is attached in this instance in Matthew’s gospel to people who were either demon possessed or sick in their bodies.

Since the Holy Spirit moved Matthew to testify that the prophesy is directly tied to healing sickness and freeing people from demonic possession, this amazing promise regarding Jesus is very beneficial to us today.

We have already established clearly that Jesus took our sin at the cross, but here we are finding that Isaiah prophesied something remarkable that is also included in what Jesus did for us. Sin wasn’t the only thing Jesus bore on our behalf.

Developing a kingdom mindset involves renewing the mind by washing it with the water of the word. The word must be allowed to challenge natural thinking. At the same time what we choose to believe needs accurate Biblical support to produce the fruit of faith that comes from hearing it. Biblical faith sees God responding invisibly, well before the visible manifests. Biblical faith is not about what we can see, it is about believing what we can’t see. Natural vision can fail you, but spiritual vision unlocks opportunity and possibility. Under natural thinking it is much easier to see how far from the mark we are than it is to see how righteous He has made us. It takes faith to see ourselves as righteous in the way Scripture declares us to be in Christ.
Ideological opinions and pleasant sounding phrases may sound good. They can even sometimes be useful to alleviate disappointment in an uncomfortable moment. But that doesn’t make them solid Biblical faith builders. We need to know what God says about Himself, His character and His heart towards us. Once we know His heart, we know His willingness and we already know He is able. Such knowledge unlocks faith.

There’s all kinds of advice available today now that social media has such a far reaching platform and multitudes think Google can supply the answer they are looking for. But the wisdom of giving serious consideration to what Scripture says will never be out done. So we should consider what it says in,

Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Something happens in us when we believe God is speaking clearly to us. There is a confidence of faith that comes when you know that you know that you know God has revealed the truth very clearly to you. You cannot help but feel strengthened and your resolve to act is bolstered. It provides us with clear direction.

That is why we need to do more than just casually read the Scriptures. We need to chew on the things God has spoken to us directly with regard to Jesus and what He accomplished and how that is intended to affect our lives. In many places God reveals His motives for declaring a promise and what He did to make certain it was established. He communicates this for us to have faith and be able trust Him.

So, should it be thought of as being selfish or weird to consider how we might be benefitted and blessed by god in this life?

Some things people accept are contradictions when you really think about it. I have heard people say that it was God’s will that they were sick. They will say if it were His will that they be whole they would be whole. There is a lot of misunderstanding in that kind of statement. The same people who say that go to the doctor and take medicine to get well. If it were God’s will someone is sick would be a direct violation of His will to seek to get well? Many needlessly suffer due to a lack of understanding how the kingdom of God operates. Even in the natural people are prone to think that broken things should be fixed. Even unsaved people care about the health of other people and seek to do something about it. With regard to heavenly intervention it can help to know that God does not arbitrarily impose His will in our lives, He patiently waits for us to capture His heart for us. It’s not enough to just know about His ability to do things. We need to also know about His willingness to do so, especially in our own personal situation. He loves you very personally and is for you very personally. We do not think it strange if someone seeks to help a person they know who is sick to get better. Why should it be strange to imagine that God as a father would have such a desire for His children?

I praise God for doctors and medical professionals because they are doing God’s will in this earth whether they realize it or not. God’s will was and is for His creation to be healthy and whole. So I am not against doctors and medical professionals seeking the well being of others. When a child gets sick they don’t ask for the doctor, they ask for the person they are in closest relationship with, Mommy or Daddy. Mommy and Daddy will do all they know to do to get that child well too on their own because in their heart of love their will is for their child to be well.

Should faith for supernatural healing from a loving heavenly father be considered strange by comparison?

This is why who we allow ourselves to listen to and take advice from matters tremendously. It is why being in the word of God chewing on important passages as they pertain to our life and situations is even more important for us.

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! I hope you will allow me to encourage you today with the good things spoken about you in Scripture.

Psalms 103:1 My soul, bless the LORD, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. 2 My soul, bless the LORD, and do not forget all his benefits. 3 He forgives all your iniquity; (Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am He who blots out your transgressions for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.) He heals all your diseases. (Jeremiah 30:17 For I will restore health to you and heal you of your wounds,’ says the LORD,) 4 He redeems your life from the Pit; (Psalms 49:15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me.) He crowns you with faithful love and compassion. (Psalms 5:12 For You, O LORD, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield.) 5 He satisfies you with good things; (Psalms 107:9 For He satisfies the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness.) your youth is renewed like the eagle.

There is no doubt in my mind that God as a father wishes to do good to His children. He wishes to bless His children. He desires to do things that enable you and I to live in the new identity we have received in His Son Jesus. It is in His heart to show us compassion and mercy. It is in His heart to be faithful towards us. It is in His heart to bless us with good things!

The challenge to this that we often face is that we can think our failures and unfaithfulness at times is greater than His desire and ability to do us good. We feel very strongly that we do not deserve such kindness because we have failed to measure up to being able to merit it. But that is the beauty of it all. It is not something to be merited by us, it is given to us as a gift from Him so that His grace is immeasurably manifested and given glory. We have been made righteous by Jesus so that we can receive all that God has in mind for us and by being in relationship with Him know His desires for us. This ability to hear His voice and know His heart empowers us to be bold and courageous about receiving whatever we need to follow Him into His will for our lives. This comes with great benefits that are unearned by us. They just are because he is.

Remember, you are loved today and always by your faithful gracious Heavenly Father.

Never Turned Away

At the cross Jesus bore more than just our sin. Do you know what it is?

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me!

In the Bible there is a story of how Jesus was at Peter’s house and Peter’s mother-in-law was sick with fever and Jesus healed her. Immediately she got up and started serving Jesus and all who were there. That evening people brought demon possessed folks and sick folks and it says that Jesus cast out the demons and healed them all. We do not know how many in number was involved just that there were demon possessed people there and sick people there and that however many there were Jesus delivered and healed them all.

When we study the gospels we learn that Jesus never turned away anyone who came to Him for deliverance or healing. There is a continual demonstration of willingness on His part to meet the people at the point of their need according to their faith. Jesus had compassion on them and healed them all.

I have never met anyone who would say God was unable to heal or to deliver. Usually they will always say, “Of course He can heal He can do anything he wants to He is God.” So believing God is able to do something is not something that we typically wrestle with. The thing that creates a struggle at times is whether or not He is willing. In the incident where Jesus delivered and healed everyone that evening which is recorded in Matthew 8:14-17 verse 17 gives us something worth thinking about and asking the Holy Spirit to illuminate to our hearts. At the cross Jesus bore more than just our sins. I encourage you to read it carefully and consider it asking the Holy Spirit to reveal things to you from it.

Remember, you are loved today and always by your faithful gracious Heavenly Father. By coming to His Son Jesus in faith to be forgiven and made alive you became His child supernaturally and He is for you not against you. Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! Did you know that in Mark 16 it says believers will lay hands on the sick and they shall recover?

I remember it well. It happened after our fourth child was born. My wife experienced a very serious episode of postpartum depression and she would cry for long periods for no real reason and she struggled to get through a day. This went on for several weeks and with the long hours I was working and her being at home with four kids and one a new born it was taking a real toll on all of us. I felt so bad for her and I wished I could help her but I was totally at a loss on what to do. I couldn’t quit work and stay home, I was the sole provider.

One evening in a moment of sheer desperation I sought the Lord and began to levy my complaint to Him about the situation and how it was unfair and it needed to end. As I went through my list of reasons for why it was not right declaring He needed to do something about it I heard a voice inside me saying, “I have already supplied you with what is needed now go and speak over your wife and release her from this.” I knew that voice really well. It was my father from heaven speaking to my spirit. I responded, “God you know that if I go back there where she is right now crying and do something and it doesn’t work it might push her over the edge.” His reply was simple, “Are you going to trust me or are you going to talk yourself out of this opportunity to see her set free from this?”

So I called her to come to where I was and she did with tears flowing. She was so helpless and my heart was so moved for her. I told her the Lord spoke to me and that tonight this is going to end, it has to go. So I laid my hands on her and rebuked it and commanded it to leave her and it did. That night she was totally set free from that postpartum depression she was battling. God moved mightily on her behalf and on behalf of the family. I was then kicking myself and saying to myself, “why did I wait so long to get with God about this and do something, she could have been free much sooner.” I am so glad He loves us.

Good morning, afternoon or evening to you! Depending on when you are finding the time to tune in I welcome you today and thank you for joining me! It is my aim to encourage you today in the grace Jesus gives and remind you of His marvelous love and faithfulness in some way.

You know, way back long, long ago when Israel was in slavery God very mercifully determined their time in that situation had come to an end as far as He was concerned so He set in motion His plan to deliver them. He used Moses as His vessel to go to Pharaoh and intercede for their release from slavery. Through a series of 10 plagues that God sent against Egypt to convince Pharaoh to let them go they left Egypt, healthy, wealthy and free. The Egyptians were so eager to see them go they gave them gold and goods for the journey, they just wanted them gone.

In the Psalms it says the following about that moment in history as the Israelites went out.

Psalm 107:20 He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions.

God made sure they were physically well when leaving their bondage behind. Even way back then there was something in the heart of God that desired to see His children being well and doing well. There is no sickness in heaven and all sickness is a direct result of the fall of man that gave sin a place here on this earth. It came under the curse of the fall. But God has seen fit to intervene as it pertains to that curse matter and bring healing.

It requires His word being activated in the heart and the soul being washed with the truth not only about His ability to heal, but also about His willingness to do so.
